Souped-up airport wi-fi

In a bid to modernize luggage collection, a special luggage tag made by the HKIA was released late last year. The tag can be paired with the HKIA’s mobile app to alert passengers when their luggage is ready for collection on the conveyor belt.

HKIA ranked fifth in last year’s World Airport Awards rankings topped by Singapore’s Changi Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport.

Souped-up airport wi-fi

Departing passengers at the Hong Kong International Airport will be able to browse the web with greater speed using free high-speed wi-fi that will be available in 10 areas next week.

The high-speed wi-fi is part of a series of upgrades the Airport Authority has been rolling out to improve passenger experience.

Free shower rooms for arriving passengers – one for each gender – have already been added near the immigration checkpoints.

According to the authority, the download speed could go up to 400Mb per second, which will be highly convenient for business travelers who may need to retrieve large files from the internet.
