The representatives of Panama, under whose flag the Sanchi was sailing, Hong Kong, and Iran attended a meeting during which the black box of the ill-fated vessel was opened, Hadi Haqshenas, the deputy head of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization said on Wednesday.
The results of the joint meeting and its details we be announced within hours, he said, adding however that the black box decoding is a time-consuming process and revealing its result may take several months.
The Iranian consul in Shanghai also confirmed the opening of the black boxes of the Sanchi and the Chinese vessel that collided with it, saying that they are being decoded.
Sanchi, with 32 people on board, collided with a Chinese freight ship in the East China Sea on January 6 and had been burning ever since.
